Alleppey or Alappuzha is a market town built on a labyrinth of canals and surrounded by coconut palms. It is one of the starting points for the famous backwater cruises which take you through the water highways of this region where you can see the daily activities of the people as they go about their business by boat, in the lush green paddy fields and on the banks of the waterways.
