Hyderabad

Hyderabad is known as the City of Pearls and the home of the Kohinoor Diamond. This capital city of Andhra Pradesh now comprises 3 cities: Hyderabad - an important centre of Islamic culture; Secunderabad - site of the British barracks across the river; and Hitec City or Cyberabad. This central Indian city is a unique blend of the north and south. The symbol of the city is the Charminar (four minarets). Other places of interest include the Mecca Masjid incorporating bricks made of mud from Mecca and able tohouse 10,000 worshippers, Salar Jung museum - one man's collection dating back to the 1st century, and the nearby Golconda Fort - previous seat of the Qutb Shahi dynasty who moved to Hyderabad due to a water shortage.
